Mataram Gendam Level 1 —
Personal Magnetism and Presence

The first level of Mataram Gendam is the foundation everything else is built on. Here is what it actually develops, what the practice involves, and what changes for students who commit to it.

Of the five levels in the Mataram Gendam system, Level 1 is the most important. Not because it is the most advanced — it is the least — but because everything that follows depends entirely on the quality of the foundation it establishes. Practitioners who rush past Level 1 looking for more exotic capacities consistently produce inferior results at every subsequent level. Practitioners who build a genuinely strong Level 1 foundation find that Levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 unfold with significantly less difficulty.

This article explains what Level 1 is actually developing, what the practice involves day to day, and what students consistently report once the foundation takes hold.

What Level 1 Is Developing

The primary focus of Mataram Gendam Level 1 is the development of pancaran — the radiant magnetic field of the practitioner. This is the fundamental Gendam quality: a cultivated energetic presence that produces, in people who come into contact with it, states of heightened attention, natural receptivity, and a quality of being drawn toward the practitioner.

This is not the same as confidence or charisma — though it may appear similar from the outside. The distinction is in the source. Confidence and charisma are psychological qualities; they operate through manner, word choice, body language. Pancaran is an energetic quality; it operates through the field the practitioner carries, and its effects precede verbal interaction. A practitioner with developed Level 1 pancaran changes the atmosphere of a room when they enter it, before they speak a word.

Level 1 develops pancaran through three interlocking practices: the foundational nafas sequence, the Level 1 mantra transmitted at initiation, and tatapan cultivation. These three are described in detail in the core practices article; what matters here is understanding what they are building toward.

What Changes — The Observable Outcomes

Social presence
People begin to respond differently in your vicinity — more attentive, more willing to listen, a natural tendency to orient toward you in group settings. This is reported by students and by people around them who have no knowledge of the practice.
Conversational receptivity
People become more open and receptive when you speak. Resistance in interactions decreases. This is particularly noticed in professional and persuasion contexts — sales, negotiation, leadership, client work.
Tatapan effect
The practitioner's gaze begins to produce observable responses in others — arrested attention, stillness, sometimes somatic effects (warmth, heaviness, involuntary relaxation). This becomes a conscious tool.
Energy and vitality
The nafas practices that develop pancaran simultaneously develop the practitioner's own vitality. Students consistently report increased energy, clearer mental states, and reduced fatigue alongside the magnetic development.
Emotional transmission
The practitioner's emotional and mental states begin to transmit more directly and intentionally to others — calm produces calm in the room; focused attention produces focused attention in the listener.
Foundation for advanced levels
The most practically important outcome: a strong Level 1 foundation means that Level 2 healing transmission and beyond are built on real energetic development rather than technique alone.

The Level 1 Daily Practice

What consistent Level 1 practice looks like
Nafas sequence — 10–15 minutes dailyThe specific nafas pattern transmitted for Level 1. This is the primary energetic cultivation practice — the engine of pancaran development. It is done in a quiet, settled state, ideally at the same time each day. Morning practice is traditional and practically superior for most students.
Mantra — 5–10 minutes dailyThe Level 1 mantra received at initiation, held with the appropriate intention and internal state. The mantra is not recited mechanically — it is engaged with as a vibrational practice. The correct engagement is taught at initiation and refined through teacher feedback.
Tatapan cultivation — 5 minutes dailySpecific gaze cultivation practice — typically with a flame or reflective surface — developing the quality and intentionality of the practitioner's directed attention. The capacity developed here is tested and applied in actual interactions.
Real-world application — ongoingIntentional use of the developing pancaran in actual social and professional contexts. The tradition is clear that development without application stagnates. Students are encouraged to work with their developing field intentionally in their actual life.

The Development Timeline — What to Expect Month by Month

Weeks 1–4
Establishing the practice
The primary task is building the daily practice habit. The mantra and nafas sequence feel unfamiliar. Some students feel subtle energy sensations during practice; others feel nothing obvious yet. Both are normal. The cultivation is occurring regardless of what is immediately felt.
Months 1–3
First internal shifts
Students begin to notice changes in their energy and presence. The practice feels more natural. Tatapan effects become more consistent. Some students receive unsolicited feedback from others that "something is different" about them. The field is building.
Months 3–6
Observable external effects
The changes become clearly visible in real interactions. Professional contexts shift noticeably — meetings, negotiations, presentations. Relationships deepen more readily. The tatapan begins to produce consistent, predictable effects when applied intentionally. This is typically when students report the practice has become deeply meaningful rather than effortful.
Months 6–12
Solid foundation — readiness for Level 2
The Level 1 pancaran is now an established quality of the practitioner's field. The development is stable — present even on days the practice is lighter, perceptible to others without the practitioner needing to "do" anything. This is the foundation on which Level 2 healing transmission will be built.

Who Is Level 1 For?

Level 1 is the appropriate entry point for all Mataram Gendam students regardless of background. There are no prerequisites beyond a genuine commitment to daily practice and a proper initiation.

Students who particularly benefit from starting with Level 1 include: those in professional roles where presence and persuasion matter (sales, leadership, clinical work, teaching, law); practitioners of related traditions (hypnotherapy, energy healing, NLP) seeking the energetic dimension their existing training doesn't develop; and anyone who has studied esoteric traditions theoretically and wants to move into genuine practice.

About the Level 1 initiation

The Level 1 initiation can be received remotely — it does not require in-person contact. The initiation transmits the Level 1 mantra and the teacher's energetic activation of the student's developing field. After initiation, students have direct access to Saket Rai for practice guidance and feedback throughout their Level 1 development. See the initiation article for a full account of what the initiation involves.

The Connection to the Full Five-Level System

It is worth holding Level 1 in the context of the complete Mataram Gendam system. Level 1 is personal magnetism — the development of the practitioner's own field. Level 2 adds the ability to direct that field into another person for healing purposes. Level 3 adds energised object work. Level 4 covers manifestation and distance work. Level 5 is the teaching and transmission capacity.

Every one of these depends on Level 1. A Level 2 healer with a weak Level 1 foundation is working with insufficient energetic resource. A Level 5 teacher with a shallow Level 1 is transmitting a pale echo of the tradition. Level 1 is not the beginning of the path — it is the path's foundation, which means it is always being deepened, always being developed, regardless of how many subsequent levels a practitioner has received.

Senior Mataram Gendam practitioners still do their Level 1 practice every day. That says everything about how the tradition understands the relationship between foundation and advancement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Mataram Gendam Level 1 develop?
Level 1 develops the foundational magnetic field (pancaran) of the practitioner — the quality of personal presence that produces arrested attention, natural authority, and heightened receptivity in people around them. Development happens through nafas cultivation, the Level 1 mantra initiation, and consistent daily practice. Most students notice qualitative changes within 3–6 months.
Who is Mataram Gendam Level 1 for?
Level 1 is the entry point for all serious Mataram Gendam students regardless of background. It is appropriate for complete beginners and for experienced practitioners in related fields (hypnotherapy, energy work, NLP) who want the Gendam energetic foundation. The only prerequisite is genuine commitment to daily practice.
Can I receive the Level 1 initiation online?
Yes. The Level 1 initiation is transmitted effectively online. The energetic transmission does not require physical proximity. Students worldwide have received and developed genuine Level 1 capacity through remote initiation with Saket Rai.
How long before I notice results?
Most students with consistent daily practice report observable changes in their social presence and how others respond to them within 3–6 months of initiation. Some notice shifts earlier. The development is cumulative — more consistent practice produces more reliable and faster development.
